Primary aluminum production in the Persian Gulf countries in July amounted to 293 thousand tons, which is 44% less than in the same month of 2025, according to preliminary calculations by the International Aluminum Institute (IAI). Two factories in the Persian Gulf countries, which account for about 9% of the world's primary aluminum production capacity, were attacked by Iran in late March.
However, production increased slightly from the local low of 274,000 tons recorded in April. In May, production amounted to 281 thousand tons, in June - 276 thousand tons, according to the revised IAI data.
The emergency shutdown in March is happening faster than expected. However, a return to previous production levels may not occur until early 2027. The company, which has a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, is currently operating at about 18%.
Global primary aluminum production in July decreased by 1.7% year–on-year to 6.16 million tons. In particular, production in China increased by 2.7% and reached 3.866 million tons. In North America, the indicator remained unchanged (330 thousand tons), in Europe it increased by 7.5% (to 643 thousand tons), in Asia, excluding China, by 2.7% (to 422 thousand tons).
