India's Godavari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL) has reopened its 2 million tons per year iron ore pellet production plant located in the central state of Chhattisgarh, according to an official company statement released on Monday, August 31.
pellet production was temporarily halted in July 2026.
Industry sources said that the plant was shut down due to a reduction in natural gas supplies under a contract from GAIL India Limited, a gas marketing and transportation company, and a decrease in supplies of fine iron ore from the Ari Dongri mines due to monsoon rains.
