The Austrian steel company voestalpine has announced the completion of its new electric arc furnace production facility at the Donavice plant, where the key components of two furnaces, EAF 1 and EAF 2, have already been installed.
According to the company, the lower part and the upper containers of the furnace and the furnace covers have already been installed. A high-strength assembly of rotating supports, including lifting cylinders and brackets for mounting electrodes, as well as the construction of electric arc furnaces. These components will form part of the central melting unit of the new production line.
Electric arcs will heat up to 15 000°C
Each arc furnace will use three large graphite electrodes powered by three phases of the electrical grid to create electric arcs that reach temperatures of 15,000°C. The resulting energy will be used to melt the raw materials for subsequent steelmaking processes.
The EDP will mainly use scrap steel, while hot-rolled cast iron (HBI) will also be used to improve the quality of steel and maintain a stable chemical composition. Depending on the steel grade required, lime, dolomite, carbon, and alloying elements, including chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and марганец.
Work continues on the transmission system лома
Meanwhile, work is also continuing on the scrap transshipment system. Trolleys for scrap transshipment will deliver the material from the scrap yard to the EDP, and the scrap baskets will be transported to the furnace shop via an underground conveyor system. The waste bins have already been fully assembled and installed on the transfer trolleys.
Voestalpine has stated that the new EDP, consisting of two furnaces, will form the basis for modern and resource-efficient steel production in Donavica.
