In the first seven months of this year, the ratio of steel exports to imports in Turkey increased to 82.18 percent from 76.93 percent recorded in the same period last year.

According to the TCUD statement, measures to allow consumption to be diverted to domestic supplies should be continued, given that the Turkish steel sector has only been able to use 64.2 percent of its production capacity of 61.9 million tons. TCUD stated that in light of all these developments, it is important to introduce measures in 2026 that will limit imports, especially from the Far Eastern countries and Russia, increase domestic consumption and accelerate the transition to high-value-added products.
