According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), 16,389 heavy trucks were produced in Mexico in August this year, which is 100.18 percent more than in August 2025, when 8,187 units were produced. In the first eight months of 2026, heavy-duty vehicle production totaled 101,940 units, up 2.65% from 99,311 units produced in the same period last year.
Trucks accounted for 97.6% of production in the January-August period at 99,526 units, while the remaining 2,414 units, or 2.4 percent, were passenger buses. Freightliner became the largest manufacturer in August (10,240 units), followed by International (4,525 units) and Kenworth (1,087 units). In eight months, Freightliner produced 63,604 units, up 10.5% from last year, while International produced 26,939 units, up 1.1%, and Kenworth produced 7,305 units, down 31.0%.
In August, Mexico exported 14,310 heavy-duty vehicles, up 116.65% from the 6,605 units exported in the same month of 2025. Exports in the first eight months of this year amounted to 85,687 units, which is 3.71% more than in the same period last year. The main destination was the United States (92.5% of the total shipments - 79,261 units), followed by Canada (3,809 units) and Colombia (1,697 units). In August, Freightliner exported 10,073 units, followed by international with 3,877 units, and Kenworth with 358 units.
In the domestic market, retail sales of heavy-duty vehicles totaled 3,194 units in August, down 4.83% year-on-year, while wholesale sales increased by 19.05% to 3,025 units. Between January and August, retail sales fell by 18.24% to 22,309 units, while wholesale sales rose by 6.97% to 20,591 units.
