The German company SMS Group has announced that Dillinger France has ordered an upgrade of the cold-rolled leveling device at its thick-sheet plant in Dunkirk to process modern grades of high-strength steel and expand the product range while maintaining existing mechanical equipment.
Upgrade to improve plate quality
The latest generation X-Pact plate alignment control system will replace the alignment model supplied in 1999. The flatness of the plate was improved and residual stresses were removed due to improved process control. The optimized roll arrangement, the distribution of bending forces and torque, combined with the integrated 9/5 roll rotation mode, expand the operating range of the equipment without the need to replace rolls.
Construction completion is scheduled for December 2027
The project is due to be launched soon and is scheduled to be completed by December 2027, with the new model initially operating in shadow mode to compare its performance with existing production.
Dillinger France annually produces more than 600,000 tons of rolled steel for use in offshore wind power, mechanical engineering, pipeline and boiler production.
