Spanish steelmaker Megasa Siderúrgica has contracted Italy’s Danieli Technologies to modernize the rolling mill at Siderúrgica Nacional (SN) Seixal in Portugal. The plant produces up to 1 million tonnes of reinforcing bar, spooled bar and wire rod a year; commissioning of the upgraded equipment is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027, Danieli said.
The project includes a Q-HEAT induction heating system with three coils and a combined installed power of 6 MW. It will offset billet temperature losses during transfer from the reheating furnace to the first rolling stand, particularly during welding, and help maintain more uniform temperatures for consistent mechanical properties.
Danieli will also reconfigure the intermediate mill area and supply four cantilever ESS stands. The changes are intended to simplify roll-pass design, optimize production and layout, and improve safety, the company said. Danieli Automation will replace the Level 2 process control system to improve material tracking from billet loading to finished-product discharge on the finishing lines.
