Tata Steel Europe won a contract for the supply of more than 200,000 tons of the upper track for the French railway operator SNCF for a period of two years. From its plant in Hayange, Northern France, Tata Steel will supply most of the products up to 108 meters long, which is necessary for the SNCF railway operator.
Hayange rolling camp receives steel from the Tata Steel Steel Steel Plant in the UK. Along with the new 108-meter railway rails, Hayange can also roll shorter lengths on the requirements of customers. Large products can be subject to heat treatment at the facility, which allows railway operators to increase performance and reduce costs associated with a more frequent replacement of a worn railway.
This production was provided by Tata Steel investments of more than 35 million euros in 2011, which allowed the Hayange plant to produce 108-meter rails that SNCF will be used on standard and high-speed French networks. The new contract is a continuation of the previous contract with SNCF. This became possible a few weeks after the opening of a new heat treatment object worth 12 million euros at the Hayange factory, built through the Tata Steel oriented approach to the customer market.
The heat -processed railway products can serve up to three times longer than standard, under high wear, such as intense movement, high loads on the axis or steep turns. The recently opened complex will allow Tata Steel to more than double the annual performance of thermally processed railway products from 55,000 to 125,000 tons.
