Imports of stainless steel in Turkey increased in the first half of the year

According to the latest statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the country's stainless steel imports fell sharply during June 2014, but this did not significantly affect the results of the first half of the year.

Imports in June amounted to 42,453 tons against 49,554 tons of imports in May this year, which indicates a decrease of 14.33 percent. However, on an annualized basis, imports of stainless steel in the country were marginally higher, resulting in a 0.9 percent increase. Import values ​​in June 2014 in monetary terms amounted to 55, 835 million dollars.

South Korea was the largest exporter of stainless steel to Turkey in June this year. Imports from Korea amounted to 12,280 tons per month, accounting for more than a third of Turkey's total imports of stainless steel products in June 2014.

China was the second largest supplier of stainless steel sheets to Turkey. Imports from China amounted to 7067 tons. The third and fourth places were taken by Taiwan and Italy with 5259 tons and 5141 tons, respectively.

Cumulative imports of stainless products in the country in the first six months of this year amounted to 255,964 tons, which is 13.18 percent higher compared to imports in the corresponding six-month period of 2013. During the reporting period, imports had a value of $ 55.835 million.

The largest exporter of stainless products to Turkey in January-June this year was South Korea. During this period, imports from South Korea amounted to 69,480 tons. China was the second largest supplier of stainless steel to Turkey. Imports from China amounted to 46338 tons. Italy and Taiwan came in third and fourth with 36,645 tonnes and 29,349 tonnes, respectively.
