US decides not to impose duties on Turkish exports of steel bars

Namik Yekini, Chairman of the Union of Turkish Steel Exporters, said that in order to prevent the export supplies of Turkish producers from decreasing, the Union used all available means, as a result of which the American court agreed with the arguments presented on this issue. He said that he always believed in the firm position of Turkish exporters and looked forward to a fair trial.

The US Department of Commerce had to abandon all anti-dumping tariffs imposed on Turkish imports of steel wire rod and rebar. The department said it did not expect such a turn of events, believing that they had valid arguments.

The department, at the same time, confirmed that the tariff was imposed on steel exports from Mexico, up 66.7 percent, which could significantly affect the rebar industry in Mexico.

The Coalition, representing 5 American rebar manufacturers, including Gerdau, Metal Co, and Nucor Corp, said in a statement that they are shocked that the Commerce Department does not oppose the export of Turkish steel products.

Raul Gutierrez, chief executive of Mexican company Deacero, said the tariff would have a negative impact on Mexico's exports. It will also negatively impact US consumers who will no longer have access to high quality steel products at affordable prices. He also stated that the company plans to avoid trading in the US as it cannot afford to do business in such an environment.
