Anglo Asian Mining intends to increase copper production in Azerbaijan

Anglo Asian Mining, following an increase in estimated ore reserves at its Gedabek mine in Azerbaijan, is setting a course to boost copper production in the region. Reza Waziri, CEO of Anglo Asian, said he wants to take advantage of the significant copper grade in the ore.

The company, owned by the UK holding, is deciding on the construction of a plant for the production of copper and precious metals. The plant will help improve the processing of copper, which currently initially amounts to 379,000 tonnes of ore, as well as the recovery of other precious metals from ore. The cost of the plant will be about $ 3.5 million.

The company entered into an agreement with the Turkish construction company YPT to build a plant, as this company has already built a facility for Anglo Asian Mining in Gadabay. The chief executive said the plant would be an important step for the company, which is becoming a major long-term copper producer. He also stated that the company has proven to others that it can successfully sell its copper and other precious metals products.

The updated ore reserves at the mine showed a full JORC ore reserve on the pit Gadabay open section of 20.5 million tonnes of ore, comprising 1.03 grams per tonne of gold (682,000 ounces), 0.50 percent copper (117,000 tonnes) and 7. 35 grams per tonne of silver (4.84 Moz). Copper grade on the new estimate of ore reserves increased by 96 percent, recoverable copper increased by more than 500 percent to 68 thousand tonnes compared to 11 thousand tonnes in ore reserves reported in May 2012.
