Steel production decreased in North America in January 2015

According to the latest data released by the World Steel Association, North American steel yields declined 1.3 percent during January 2015 year-on-year. Steel production was 10 million tonnes, and in the same month in 2014 it reached 10.136 million tonnes. However, in January 2015, steel production in the region improved compared to the previous month, when the output was 9.977 million tons.

Total crude steel production in Canada in January 2015 was 1 million tonnes, down from 1.058 million tonnes produced in the same month a year ago. The United States produced 7.355 million tonnes of steel, up just 0.4 percent from 7.329 million tonnes in January 2014.

Mexico's crude steel production fell 6.0 percent to 1.550 million tonnes in January this year, compared with 1.649 million tonnes in January last year. Cuban steel production rose 19.7 percent to 25,000 tonnes. Salvador's steel output was estimated at 10,000 tons in January 2015, up 25 from a year earlier.

Guatemala produced 25,000 tons in the first month of 2015, down 3.8 percent from the same month a year ago. Trinidad and Tobago's steel production fell 22.8 percent in January 2015 to 35,000 tons, up from 45,000 tons in the same month last year.
