Results of production and export of steel for the 1st quarter in Ukraine

Iron ore exports from the country totaled 11.11 million tons in the first quarter of 2015, an increase of 20.6 percent year on year, according to data released by the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine. At the same time, the value of the country's exports, generated by supplies of iron ore in January-March, amounted to US $ 684 million, decreasing by 38.7 percent compared to the same period last year. At the same time, 594,849 tons of iron ore were imported to Ukraine over the period, which indicates a 35.5 percent drop on an annualized basis. The import value was US $ 30.39 million.

According to data released by the industry association Metallurgprom, Ukrainian exports of semi-finished steel products in the first three months of 2015 amounted to 1.83 million tonnes, down 33.7 percent year on year. In January-March, exports of steel semi-finished products from the country in monetary terms reached about USD 703 million, down 46.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

In general, steel production in Ukraine in the first quarter amounted to 5.16 million tons, down 31 percent compared to January-March last year, according to Metallurgprom. According to the latest industry data, 4.49 million tonnes of total steel were produced during the first quarter, down 33 percent compared to the same period in 2014. Pig iron output for this period amounted to 4.72 million tons, having decreased by 33 percent at the annual level. Coke production in January-March 2015 decreased by 43 percent compared to the first quarter of 2014 and amounted to 2.45 million tons.
