Alexey Miller, CEO of Gazprom, said gas supplies to Ukraine doubled in May after Hungary and Poland suspended reverse supplies. Miller said Ukraine's demand for Russian gas has nearly doubled since May 1. Gas supplies from Russia to Ukraine were less than 9.2 million cubic meters per day as of April 30, and rose to 19.7 million cubic meters as of May 1.
This week on Tuesday, Gazprom confirmed that it has received $ 40 million from Naftogaz of Ukraine in the form of an advance payment for gas supplies in May. Since May 1, gas supplies from Poland to Ukraine through the Germanovichi station have stopped. Daily deliveries in April to Ukraine through this station amounted to about 12 million cubic meters of gas, according to information provided by the Polish company GAZ-SYSTEM SA.
Earlier, the Hungarian pipeline operator FGSZ announced that it had stopped gas supplies to Ukraine. The Slovak gas transmission company Eustream reported that Ukraine has cut its daily gas imports from Slovakia to 21.5 million cubic meters from an average volume in April of about 38 million cubic meters, which indicates a 43 percent drop.
The Ministry of Energy and the Government of Ukraine agreed on gas consumption of 40 billion cubic meters in 2015, while imports will amount to 25 billion cubic meters, which is 33.5 percent more than in 2014. At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers ordered Naftogaz to ensure that no source supplies more than 50 percent of the total gas supply.
