Exports of scrap metal in this country since the beginning of 2015 have tended to decline. However, exports rose sharply during March this year, as evidenced by the latest data released in the US by the International Trade Commission.
According to these data, the export of scrap metal from the country during March 2015 amounted to 1.23 million tons. Exports increased by 7.7 percent compared to exports in the same month last year. US exports during March 2014 amounted to 1.14 million tonnes. Compared to the previous month, the export of scrap metal increased by almost 24.9 percent from 0.985 million tons. in February.
The largest export destination of ferrous scrap for the United States was Taiwan. US exports to Taiwan totaled 229,000 tons. Exports of scrap metal to Taiwan accounted for about 20 percent of total US exports for the month. US scrap exports to Taiwan during the previous month totaled 126,000 tons.
Turkey was the second largest importer of American scrap metal. US exports to Turkey totaled 215,000 tons, a significant decline of nearly 45 percent from 391,000 tons in the previous month. In third place was Mexico with 147,000 tons of scrap imports.
Cumulative exports of scrap metal in the first three months of the year were 3.259 million tonnes, down 5 percent from the country's exports during the corresponding three-month period in 2014. The projected export of scrap metal in the country for the entire 2015 is 13.4 million tons.
