Russia's entry into the WTO - good or danger to Russian metallurgy?

In the near future, the Russian Federation will enter the World Trade Organization (WTO). Many experts are confident that this process carries a number of risks for sectors of the Russian economy, including metallurgy.

Negatively, at the work of the metallurgical plants of Russia, a significant decrease in customs duties can affect such a group of imported goods as steel, galvanizing, aluminum and aluminum products. Most of the fears of Russian manufacturers of steel and galvanized metal rolling are associated with the planned decrease in customs duties and an increase in the volume of imports of steel products into the Russian Federation. By 2014, it is expected to reduce duties from 10% to 5%. Experts also predict an increase in the supply of aluminum structures from China and Turkey.

The calculation of tariffs for railway transport according to the Rules of the WTO is planned to start from July 1, 2013. And since the end of 2014, the cost of gas will be calculated in a new way. It will be calculated taking into account the profitability of supplies in the domestic and foreign markets. All these factors will lead to an increase in the cost of cargo transportation, an increase in energy prices, and, therefore, to an increase in the costs of metallurgical enterprises of the Russian Federation. ultimately, the prices for metal rolling will increase.

Thus, the competition in the domestic market for the metal distribution of Russia will significantly intensify. But this does not mean that many Russian industrial enterprises of this industry will have to close. Most of the metallurgical plants of Russia are ready for conscientious competition.
