Russian Railways celebrated the first journey of the new high-speed train Swift with rolling stock manufactured by the Spanish company Talgo and a Russian-made locomotive. On Monday, the Strizh train made its first flight from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod.
This route, 425 km long, "Strizh" overcomes in 3 hours and 35 minutes, making several stops in cities along the way. The train accelerates to 200 km per hour during the trip. Russian Railways presented the Strizh trains with first-class, second-class and SV cars, as well as a restaurant car, which also provides a buffet. The railway cars are equipped with all modern conveniences in compliance with high safety requirements. The cars are equipped with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and ecological toilets, as well as fire alarms, satellite communications and controls.
The rolling stock purchased by Russian Railways from the Spanish company Talgo is also equipped with passive tilting technology, which saves time due to higher travel speeds on curved sections of the road and reduces the impact of centrifugal forces on passengers, which significantly improves their comfort. The train locomotive is an EP-20-010 high-speed electric passenger locomotive designed by Transmashholding and built by the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant in southern Russia. The train was developed in collaboration between Transmashholding and the French railway company Alstom.
Train tickets range from 900 rubles ($ 17) for the second class and from 5000 rubles ($ 94) for two people in the SV compartment. "Strizh" will operate up to five flights a day in June, and from July up to seven flights, with the maximum number on Fridays. Some trains will run non-stop, but most will have three stops in cities such as Vladimir, Kovrov and Dzerzhinsk.
The Strizh trains are also equipped with a mechanism that automatically changes the track gauge from the Russian standard 1520 mm to 1435 mm adopted in Europe. In the near future, namely in December, service will also begin on the Moscow-Berlin route.
