TMK's subsidiary ARTROM in Romania has commissioned a precision tube workshop focused on the production of hydraulic cylinders for the automotive industry. The opening ceremony took place in the city of Slatina, which was attended by the Romanian State Secretary for Economic Affairs Popa Maricel, as well as representatives of local authorities.
The new facility is one of the stages of the development strategy of the Russian company in Romania for the period 2014-2020, and is also aimed at increasing the added value of its products through steel pipes manufactured in Slatina from the corresponding alloy with excellent characteristics. The workshop cost ten million euros and is the first step in a comprehensive plan to modernize the TMK-ARTROM Slatina plant, which specializes in the production of automobile pipes, pipes for hydraulic cylinders and construction.
The Romanian steel and pipe manufacturer TMK-ARTROM is one of the leading producers of seamless pipes in Europe and the driving force behind TMK's European division. The company exports about 85 percent of its total production to more than 50 countries, including the European Union and the Middle East, the United States and Canada. The rest is intended for consumption by TMK-ARTROM as raw materials. The commissioned facility will enable TMK-ARTROM to enter new markets.
The advanced equipment is capable of processing the inner surface of seamless pipes by rolling and polishing. The manufactured products will be supplied for the production of hydraulic cylinders, which are widely used in lifting equipment, industrial equipment, automotive and aviation industries. Mastering the production of pipes for hydraulic cylinders will allow the European division of TMK to gain a foothold in the markets as a manufacturer of products for mechanical engineering, as well as provide new jobs.
The open workshops at TMK-ARTROM Slatina will additionally attract 50 people and 30 of those already involved in production. We also note that the new facility will be able to process 25,000 tons of pipes per year. Currently, TMK-ARTROM Slatina employs 1,350 people. Russian TMK entered Romania in 2002 when it bought Artrom Slatina, a manufacturer of steel pipes for the energy, mechanical engineering and construction industries. TMK also has a metallurgical plant TMK-Resita in this country.
