AO Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has produced its 600 millionth ton of pig iron since the first blast furnace was commissioned in 1932. The blast furnace # 6 technical team was honored to receive this jubilee ton of pig iron.
Congratulating the workers of blast furnace production, MMK General Director Pavel Shilyaev said that it was especially important to reach this milestone with blast furnace No. 6. The fact is that this blast furnace was put into operation during the war in 1943, and therefore, this furnace should be given such an honor. Moreover, in 2015 the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War is celebrated. Obviously, this unit has changed a lot over the past 72 years. It has undergone several reconstructions, a huge number of major overhauls, and is currently operating at a fundamentally new level, using modern technologies. All blast furnace production at MMK is now one of the largest and most efficient in Russia, as Pavel Shilyaev said.
As you know, for welding cast iron parts it is necessary to use special cast iron electrodes to buy which today can be found in a number of manufacturing companies, for example, in the SCMT group of companies.
The first blast furnace was put into operation on February 1, 1932, and since then this day has been celebrated every year as MMK's birthday. Today, the blast furnace production of the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works includes eight furnaces and is the only such production facility in Russia. Its sustainable operations are critical to all other production divisions of the mill. Over the past 15 years, most of the mill's blast furnaces have been significantly modernized. The modernized furnaces use screening technologies (sinter fines screening), new feeding devices and the most modern automation systems.
The main part of the ongoing work on the renovation of blast furnaces was aimed at raising environmental standards, as a result of which modern aspiration systems were installed in blast furnaces. In 2014, MMK's blast furnace production plant produced 10.28 million tonnes of pig iron, which is the highest achievement in the modern history of the plant.
