The latest statistics released by the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) show that Brazil's scrap exports rose significantly during June this year. Brazilian exports of ferrous scrap during June 2015 amounted to 40,100 tons. The country's scrap metal exports in June this year rose 32 percent compared to the same month last year, when exports totaled 30,400 tons.
Brazil's largest export destinations for scrap metal exports were Asian countries. Exports to Asia reached 39,300 tons, accounting for over 98 percent of the country's total exports. Export prices averaged $ 237 per tonne FOB, slightly down 2 percent from $ 242 per tonne FOB in May 2015.
Government data also showed that 16,300 tons of 39,300 tons exported to Asian countries were sent to Bangladesh. Bangladesh imported over 40 percent of Asian countries' total scrap imports from Brazil during the month.
