US steel industry suffers from cheap cold rolled steel imports

Imports from countries such as Brazil, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the UK totaled $ 1.2 billion in 2014, damaging US steelmakers, the country's International Trade Commission said. Imported steel is used in many industries including automotive and construction.

The US International Trade Commission said US metallurgists were at risk of losing jobs due to cheap imports of cold rolled steel plates from seven countries, so they voted to continue the investigation, which could lead to the imposition of import duties.

In doing so, the Commissioners are discontinuing investigations into imports from the Netherlands that were included in the initial complaint by AK Steel Corp, ArcelorMittal, Nucor USA Corp, Steel Dynamics Inc., Steel Corp of the United States.
