Crude steel production in the EU-28 was stable, albeit marginally, by 0.1 percent during the month of August on an annualized basis, according to the latest data released by the World Steel Association. The region's steel output for the month amounted to 12.150 million tons.
Germany recorded the highest steel output during August and strong year-over-year growth. The country produced 3.432 million tonnes of steel during the month, up 10.7 percent from 3.101 million tonnes in August 2014. Croatia has made the biggest leap forward in steel production. Croatian production grew 673.4 percent in August 2015 over the previous year. Although Croatia's steel output during the month was the lowest in the EU. However, Croatian steel production increased from 1,000 tons in August 2014 to 10,000 tons in August this year.
Bulgaria, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Slovakia and other countries of the EU-28 region registered an increase in steel production on an annualized basis. Sweden recorded the largest decline in crude steel production in August 2015, falling 25.3 percent from the previous year.
