Exports of steel products increased in Russia

Over the past 8 months of 2015, export sales of metallurgical products showed a certain growth. Basically, the export of ferrous metallurgy products, especially semi-finished products, increased.

In the period from January to August, exports of metallurgical products increased by 10 percent compared to the corresponding months of 2014. Industry experts believe that the growth in exports is associated with the depreciation of the ruble against the currencies of importing countries, for which it has become more profitable to buy steel products in Russia rather than from domestic producers.

However, the current situation had a negative impact on the activity of the domestic metal trade. Earlier, Russian Railways, closely cooperating with metallurgists, noted that falling oil prices led to a decrease in investment and solvency in the domestic market, causing a reduction in regional budgets, as a result of which demand for ferrous metallurgy products in Russia dropped significantly.

Decrease in domestic sales of steel products negatively affects the volume of railway transportation, which is also associated with high tariffs for this type of transport, compared to river and road transportation.
