In the first 6 months of 2015, imports of Canadian coking coal amounted to USD 30.5 million, showing an increase of 123 percent compared to the same period in 2014. This was reported by the state-owned company Derzhzovnishinform.
The main recipients of coking coal from Canada in the period under review were MK Azovstal and ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih.
“Within the framework of diversifying supplies and reducing dependence on Russian raw materials, metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine are increasing imports of coking coal from far abroad. The current world prices and the level of freight rates make deliveries from Canada, the USA and Australia competitive, ”said Alexander Slavinsky, expert of Derzhzovnishinform subsidiary.
