On November 19, Thursday, a railway bridge across the Kalchik River between Sartana and Mariupol stations, which was blown up as a result of a terrorist attack in December last year, was solemnly put into operation in Mariupol. Passenger and freight traffic was launched by Ukrzaliznytsia along two routes.
The general construction works were carried out by contractors of the Dutch company Metinvest, which owns two metallurgical plants "Azovstal" in Mariupol and the plant named after Ilyich. Ukrzaliznytsia completed the laying of new tracks and electrification of the district. The total cost of the company to repair the bridge amounted to UAH 16 million.
As a reminder, Metinvest Group completed all work on the restoration of the bridge on October 20, and at the same time the first freight train with Azovstal products crossed the restored bridge from the Sartana station to the Mariupol International Trade Port.
As a reminder, on December 23, 2014, a railway bridge was blown up in Mariupol, which connected the Mariupol metallurgical plants with the Mariupol commercial port.
In July 2015, Metinvest Group made a decision to restore the bridge. The company took over the financing of the work.
