Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) commissioned a 1.4 Mtpa rebar plant in Sohar, Oman. The plant is the largest in the Gulf and Africa region, and along with existing facilities, made JSPL the largest integrated steel company in Oman. The new capacities of the rebar plant will significantly strengthen the domestic production potential of Oman and reduce the dependence of the country's construction sector on imports.
Jindal Shadeed has invested over $ 1 billion to build the largest integrated steel center in Oman. The company invested $ 190 million to set up its valve production capacity to 1.4 million tonnes by building a plant that uses technology from Danieli, Italy, one of the world's leading suppliers of equipment and plants for the steel industry.
JSPL at Jindal Shadeed previously built the largest electric arc furnace in the Arabian Peninsula. Jindal Shadeed is the only steel producer in the region that exports high quality billets to Europe for the automotive industry, as well as special round billets to Saudi Arabia for the production of seamless pipes.
JSPL acquired Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel (JSIS) in Sohar, Oman Al Gheit Holdings PJSC Abu Dhabi in 2010. JSIS Sohar is the first and largest integrated steel mill in Oman and the fourth largest in the Gulf region. Jindal Shadeed commissioned 1.5 Mtpa Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) Furnaces in December 2010, then successfully commissioned a 2 Mtpa Integrated Iron and Steel Plant (ISP) in 2014.
“The Jindal Shadeed integrated steel plant could change the dynamics of the Arabian Peninsula steel market, which is still dependent on steel imports from the main producing countries. With 15 million tonnes per year of rebar consumption in the region, Jindal Shadeed's new production capacity in Sohar will provide significant support to the region's construction industry, ”commented JSPL Group CEO.
