The press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reports that over the past day, the Armenian Armed Forces violated the ceasefire in various directions of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops 117 times.
Taking into account the operational situation, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces inflicted 120 fire strikes on enemy positions.
On the night of April 2, all border positions of Azerbaijan were subjected to intensive shelling from large-caliber weapons, mortars, grenade launchers and artillery mounts. In addition, a number of settlements near the contact line of the troops, where the civilian population live compactly, was shelled. As a result of the shelling, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population.
From 12:00 on April 5, by agreement of the parties, operations on the line of contact between the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops were stopped. Reportedly, from April 2 to April 5, Azerbaijan destroyed more than 370 enemy servicemen, 12 tanks, 12 armored vehicles and 15 artillery mounts.
The conflict between the two South Caucasian countries arose in 1988 due to the territorial claims of Armenia to Azerbaijan. Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions - 20 percent of the territory of Azerbaijan - are under the occupation of the armed forces of Armenia.
In May 1994, the parties reached a ceasefire, and unsuccessful peace talks are still being held under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group and co-chaired by Russia, the United States and France.
The four resolutions adopted by the UN Security Council on the liberation of the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent territories have not yet been implemented by Armenia.
