According to World Steel, Iran overtook India to become the largest DRI producer during the month of March. India and Saudi Arabia were the second and third largest producing countries for DRI.
Data released by the World Steel Association indicates that global production of direct reduced iron (DRI) in March this year rose 6.33 percent from the previous month. World DRI production during the month of March 2016 was 4.417 million tonnes, compared to 4.154 million tonnes achieved in February 2016.
The DRI output of Iran in March this year amounted to 1.290 million tons. The country's DRI output in March increased significantly from the previous month. Iran's DRI output was 1.206 million tons in the previous month. DRI production in India in March 2016 amounted to 1.221 million tonnes, which is marginally higher compared to the previous month's output. Saudi Arabia's DRI output in March of this year was 420,000 tonnes, slightly higher than the 395,000 tonnes in February 2016.
The DRI output (in thousand tons) of the other eleven countries in March 2016 is as follows: Canada (99), Trinidad and Tobago (0), Argentina (90), Peru (5), Venezuela (60), Egypt (219), Libya (46), South Africa (74), Qatar (200), Mexico (380) and the United Arab Emirates (312). Global steel production figures are based on figures from 14 countries that accounted for about 90 percent of global DRI production in 2014.
