Russia is looking for partners for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey

At present, the Russian delegation is negotiating with large Turkish construction companies on the issue of participation in the construction of the Akkuyu NPP. The first Turkish nuclear power plant will include four VVER reactors, each with a capacity of 1200 megawatts. The project is estimated at $ 20 billion.

In 2014, the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Construction approved an environmental impact assessment report. The Akkuyu NPP foundation was laid in April 2015. The Turkish construction company Cengiz İnşaat announced its interest in the joint construction of the nuclear power plant. If the company decides to build a nuclear power plant jointly with Russia, then its share in the project will be 49 percent.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced that construction of the Akkuyu NPP would begin this year, and Ankara has not abandoned these plans. In addition, the Akkuyu NPP project was not mentioned in the Russian list of measures. The construction of the nuclear power plant is expected to be completed in 2020.
