World crude steel production in 66 countries reported by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) was 135 million tonnes in April 2016, down 0.5% from April 2015.
The crude steel capacity utilization rate of 66 countries in April 2016 was 69.2%, which is 3.6 percentage points lower than in April 2015, and 1.5 percentage points lower than in March 2016.
China's crude steel production in April 2016 reached 69.4 million tonnes, an increase of 0.5% compared to April 2015. Other Asian countries such as Japan produced 8.5 million tonnes of crude steel in April 2016, an increase of 1.2% over April 2015; South Korea's steel production was 5.7 million tonnes in April 2016, down 1.3% from April 2015.
In April 2016, Russia produced 5.9 million tonnes of crude steel, down 0.4% compared to April 2015. In Ukraine, 2.2 million tons of crude steel were produced, which is 11.7% higher compared to the same month in 2015. Turkey's crude steel production in April 2016 was 2.9 million tonnes, up 5.3% in April 2015.
The United States received 6.6 million tonnes of crude steel in April 2016, up 2.5% from April 2015. Brazil's crude steel production in April 2016 was 2.3 mln. tons, which is 20.6% lower than in April 2015.
In the EU, Germany produced 3.6 million tonnes of crude steel in April 2016, down 1.5% from April 2015. Italy produced 2.1 million tonnes of crude steel, up 14.5% in April 2015. Spain produced 1.2 million tonnes of crude steel, down 10.6% from April 2015.
