During 2015, the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works managed to reduce energy costs by RUB 1,177 million in the course of implementing energy conservation programs.
Within the framework of the program to reduce energy costs, 188 measures were carried out with an annual effect of over 71 million rubles. More than 300 million rubles was the economic effect of the energy efficient ideas proposed by employees. In 2015, the Center for Energy Saving Technologies studied more than 700 such ideas, of which 180 were implemented in 2015, and over 500 are under development.
Another area of energy conservation is the implementation of low-budget, highly efficient projects with a payback period of no more than 2 years. At the end of 2015, more than 100 low-budget investment projects aimed at improving energy efficiency were at the stage of development and implementation. Contributes to energy saving and implementation of energy service contracts. Currently, two similar projects are being implemented with GPB-Energoeffect LLC to modernize the lighting of rolling shops and install frequency control on converter smoke exhausters.
The implementation of the energy saving program provided an economic effect (535 million rubles) in the divisions of the Office of the Chief Power Engineer (UGE), a significant effect was also made by the divisions of metallurgical redistribution (222.8 million rubles) and rolling redistribution (212 million rubles). Electricity consumption by UGE workshops decreased in 2015 by 4.3 percent. Last year, in comparison with 2014, consumption of natural gas at OJSC MMK as a whole decreased by 4.3 percent, and in the workshops of the UGE - by 5.7 percent. Over the past year, the UGE workshops reduced the specific consumption of electricity for manufactured products by 2.85 percent and the specific consumption of natural gas - by 3.76 percent. As a result, the energy savings at OJSC MMK amounted to over 650 million rubles in 2015, and more than 500 million rubles on natural gas.
