Mitsubishi opens new recycling center for electronic scrap in the Netherlands

Mitsubishi открывает новый центр утилизации электронного лома в Нидерландах
Japan's Mitsubishi Materials Corporation (MMC) has decided to set up a new electronics waste recycling center at the Moerdijk port in the Netherlands. The new complex will help expand the collection of e-waste from the European region. Construction of the facility has already begun and is expected to come on stream in spring 2017.

The company is expected to increase its collection of electronic scrap from all over Europe, which is considered one of the largest sources of electronic scrap. The facility will recycle printed circuit boards and electronic components and other waste and deliver it to Japanese metallurgical and processing facilities for further processing. The facility covers almost 30,000 square meters with a total investment of almost $ 40 million. The proposed facility will have reception areas, full sampling and a sampling and delivery area

The center plans to use the patented MMC continuous copper smelting process, which is known for its low environmental impact. This will ensure compactness, low operating costs and maximum energy savings. What's more, this process will create an environmentally friendly system by effectively preventing sulfurous acid gas from leaking out. MMC is a key player in the global recycling industry.

According to the Dutch authorities, the location of a technological complex for electronic scrap in the immediate vicinity of the port of Moerdijk will shorten the delivery time for raw materials processed at Japanese facilities. Ferdinand van den Oever, Managing Director at the Port of Moerdijk, hopes that the new venture will create a big boost to the development of a circular economy.
