New military doctrine adopted in Belarus

New Military Doctrine came into effect in Belarus. Its provisions are based on an assessment of the global military-political situation, including the European region. The military doctrine was adopted by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on June 16, 2016 and approved by the Council of the Republic on June 30, 2016.

The doctrine is designed for the medium term, taking into account scientific research in the field of the armed defense of Belarus and is based on the existing experience in ensuring military security. It is directly linked to the country's defense plan and takes into account such phenomena as the color revolution and hybrid warfare.

The normative act says: “The Republic of Belarus proceeds from the fact that none of the states is an adversary for it. The Republic of Belarus condemns any military conflict as a means of implementing policy and adheres to the principle of peaceful settlement of disputes. …, But reserves the right to take a complex of preventive measures of strategic deterrence in order to prevent an attack or neutralize an internal armed conflict. The use of military force is seen as an extreme measure after the exhaustion of all possibilities of taking political, diplomatic, legal, economic, informational, ideological and other measures to ensure military security. "
