Preliminary data released by the World Steel Association indicates that global production of direct reduced iron (DRI) in July this year rose by almost 5.4% from the previous month.
World DRI production during July 2016 was 4.559 million tonnes, up from 4.326 million tonnes in June this year. According to World Steel, Iran ranks first in DRI production, closely followed by India. Mexico became the third largest DRI producer in July this year.
Iran's DRI output in July this year was 1.252 million tons. Compared to the previous month, the country's DRI output in July decreased by 9.6%. Iran's DRI output was 1.385 million tonnes in the previous month. India's DRI production in July 2016 was 1.228 Mt, up more than 16% from the previous month of 1.056 Mt. Mexico's DRI output in May of this year was 540,000 metric tons, up almost 3.25% from 523,000 tons produced during June 2016.
The DRI output (in thousand x tons) of the other eleven producing countries in July 2016 is as follows: Canada (153), Saudi Arabia (420), Trinidad and Tobago (0), Argentina (41), Peru (o), Venezuela (30), Egypt (245), Libya (45), South Africa (49), Qatar (200) and the United Arab Emirates (356).
Global DRI production figures are based on figures compiled from 14 countries that accounted for about 90% of global DRI production in 2014.
