According to the senior manager of the Austrian oil company OMV, Manfred Leitner, due to the decrease in gas production in the EU countries, the balance in the market can be ensured by importing raw materials from Russia.
According to Leitner, the reduction in gas production in the EU will be up to 50 billion cubic meters annually. This, in turn, means the need for alternative sources of supply. Most likely, these are raw materials from Russia.
Leitner views Russia as the most important gas supply partner for Europe. According to him, it is thanks to cooperation with Russia that Europe will be able to achieve a balance between demand and supply of gas in the domestic market.
Vienna is a big supporter of gas cooperation with Russia. Austria is also one of those countries that would like to have a gas alliance with Russia, even if it hurts the interests of other countries of the European Union.
