Exports of scrap metal in Russia decreased slightly

Russian exports of ferrous scrap amounted to 3.250 million tons during the first seven months of this year. At the same time, exports decreased slightly, by 1.6%, compared with exports of 3.303 million tons in January-July in 2015. Based on current data, the export of ferrous scrap in the country is estimated to be around 5.570 million tonnes throughout 2016.

Turkey was the largest importer of Russian scrap metal in January-July this year. Turkey's imports amounted to 1.541 million tons, which is almost 48% of the total Russian exports during this period. Exports to Turkey rose sharply by 15.1% year on year. Turkey's imports accounted for only 40.5%, the share of Russian exports from January to July 2015.

South Korea was the second largest imports of scrap metal. Russian exports to South Korea jumped 28.9% year-on-year to 590,583 tons. Belarus took the third place with 560,817 tons. The three importers received almost 83 percent of Russian exports.

Other key export destinations for Russian ferrous scrap during the first seven months in 2016 were Spain (305,579 tons), Portugal (40,594 tons), the Netherlands (39,813 tons), Germany (33,437 tons), Latvia (16,716 tons), Morocco (14,400 tons) and Greece (14,320 tons).
