Brazilian steel production rose year-on-year in September for the first time in 15 months. Production in September increased by 3.1 percent to 2.58 million tons of steel compared to the same month a year earlier. Although it decreased by 6.8 percent compared to August, as stated in a statement by the country's metallurgical association.
September sales of steel products in the domestic market decreased by 1.3 percent to 1.47 million tons. Sales are down 0.8 percent from August. At the same time, exports in September fell 13.1 percent to 1.35 million tons, while imports fell 8.2 percent to 205,900 tons. In monetary terms, exports fell 8.9 percent to $ 620 million, while imports fell 15.7 percent to $ 158 million.
The steel industry in Brazil operates at 60 percent of the capacity built. The Brazilian sector expects to recover next year, allowing it to increase production to 75 to 80 percent of existing capacity.
