US wants to impose anti-dumping duties on steel from eight countries

The final decision of the US Commission on International Trade on May 5 said that steelworkers from such eight countries as Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea inflicted material damage on their American colleagues.

Taiwan is one of eight countries that will soon face United States trade sanctions as they sold carbon and alloy steel plates deemed unreasonably low in the US market, the Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT) reported.

Anti-dumping tariffs for Taiwan exporters will hover between 3.62 and 6.95 percent. China Steel Corp., Taiwan's largest steel supplier, faces a 6.95 percent anti-dumping duty, with some companies hitting lower tariffs.

Seven other countries, namely Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and South Korea, will be required to pay tariffs between 5.38 and 148.02 percent, the bureau said.

France will face the highest tariff of 8.62 to 148.02 percent, while tariffs for China and South Korea will be 68.27 percent and 7.39 percent, respectively, BOFT said.

The tariffs take effect seven days after the KMT formally informs the US Department of Commerce on May 18 of its final decision, and will last until at least 2022, as the US government typically reviews such cases every five years, BOFT said. ...

In addition to anti-dumping tariffs, DOC will impose countervailing duties (CVDs) of 251.00 percent and 4.31 percent on Chinese and South Korean exporters of carbon steel plates, respectively. In 2016, exports of these products to the US market fell to 24,665 tons and a US sales value of $ 13.42 million.
