Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.2 percent. Metal on the LME for 3-month shipments is worth $ 6,981.50 per tonne. As early as Monday, LME copper gained $ 75, or 1.1 percent. - up to 6,970.00 US dollars per ton.
Copper rallied strongly last week when it was reported that Kyrgyzstan stopped mining copper and gold from the Boimchak mines. Copper production from these mines is expected to be 250,000-270,000 tonnes in 2017, which is the target of the earlier plan.
However, investors are less and less convinced that the price gains this year could be even greater, despite bright forecasts from companies such as Codelco and BHP Billiton Ltd., which expect strong global copper demand.
