European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on May 17 proposed that the United States liberalize specific areas of cooperation, including an increase in the energy sector, if Washington permanently excludes the European Union from additional customs duties on steel and aluminum.
“Once again, I must say clearly: we want to completely get rid of tariff measures. Europe is ready to enter into negotiations with our transatlantic partners, ”the EU President said at a press conference following the EU-Balkan West Summit.
As he noted, the European Union wants to deepen its energy cooperation with the United States, especially in the case of liquefied natural gas (LNG). In many EU countries there are special terminals for the receipt of these raw materials, but they are used to a limited extent.
Juncker clarified that the EU will not negotiate with Washington with the sword of Damocles hanging over its head. “This is a question of dignity,” he stressed.
