The Industrial Committee of Ukraine's BP approved an increase in the export duty for scrap metal to 58 euros per ton

Промышленный Комитет ВР Украины согласовал повышение пошлины на экспорт металлолома до 58 евро на тонне
The Committee on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship unanimously supported the new "metallurgical law" initiated by the RPL, which will eliminate the shortage of raw materials for metallurgical plants and save jobs by raising the export duty on scrap from 42 to 58 euros per ton for 3 years. This was announced by the Chairman of the Committee on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship Viktor Galasyuk.

As noted, since 2016, thanks to the adopted laws on increasing and extending the export duty on ferrous scrap from 10 to 30 euros, and then to 42 euros per tonne, Ukraine has observed positive trends in the provision of this raw material to metallurgical enterprises. For the third year in a row, the volume of deliveries of domestic scrap metal has been growing; the scrap deficit has decreased from 0.85 to 0.30 million tons. Today, this resource provides 98 percent of the needs of the metallurgical industry. However, due to the increase in the cost of raw materials in foreign markets and, accordingly, the loss of the "limiting" effect of the duty, it was proposed to increase its size.

In addition, the Committee recommended for adoption as a whole another strategic initiative of Oleg Lyashko's team, developed, according to Viktor Galasyuk, together with the best scientists and industry experts.

Thus, a positive conclusion of the Committee was received by the bill No. 9475 "In defense of Ukrainian forests", which until 2027 prohibits the export of fuel wood. As V. Galasyuk noted, the purpose of the law is to reduce the cost of firewood for the population and to eliminate the smuggling channel for exporting round timber from Ukraine in spite of the current moratorium.

“Thanks to the co-authors of these initiatives and colleagues in the Committee on Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship for effective joint work and the traditional state position,” said the people's deputy.
