World crude steel production in 64 countries that reported to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) in January 2019 amounted to 146.7 million tonnes, up 1.0% on January 2018.
Steel production in China in January 2019 amounted to 75.0 million tonnes, an increase of 4.3% compared to January 2018. India produced 9.2 million tonnes of steel in January 2019, down 1.9% from January 2018. Japan produced 8.1 million tonnes of steel in January 2019, down 9.8% from January 2018. South Korea's steel production was 6.2 million tonnes, down 1.5% on January 2018.
In the EU, Italian steel production in January 2019 was 2.0 million tonnes, 3.6% less than in January 2018. France produced 1.2 million tonnes of steel in January 2019, which is 9.7% less than in January 2018. Spain produced 1.2 million tonnes of steel in January 2019, an increase of 5.9% compared to January 2018.
The United States produced 7.6 million tonnes of steel in January 2019, up 11.0% on January 2018.
Steel production in Ukraine in January 2019 amounted to 1.9 million tons, which is 4.9% less than in January 2018.
Brazilian steel production in January 2019 was 2.9 million tonnes, up 2.3% on January 2018.
Steel production in Turkey in January 2019 was 2.6 million tonnes, down 19.5% compared to January 2018.
