Mini Metallurgical Plant Severstal acquired its own railway

CJSC Severstal - Balakovo Sortovaya Plant finishes the construction of its own railway junction in the city of Balakovo of the Saratov region of Russia. Today, the company's specialists have begun the final stage of construction - the ballasting of the railway the ways (bringing ballast (crushed stone) to the railway sleepers of the rail track and its leveling in order to straighten the upper structure of the railway).

To complete the task, a special ballasting train consisting of a locomotive and six hop wagons - dispensers capable of a uniform pouring of crushed stone under the sleepers arrived at the mini metallurgical plant plant.

By the end of November 2012, the new railway track will be completely ready for commissioning. After the reconciliation and adjustment of the rail track, the company expects to obtain the necessary permits.

“According to our logistics system, we plan to accept and release one composition early in the morning and late in the evening in the normal mode to minimize breaks in the movement of vehicles along the Balakovo -Samara highway,” says Igor Baykov, General Director of Severstal -Balakovo Plant Balakovo.

Construction, begun in 2010 is nearing completion. The total length of the new railway, the collapse of the Balakovo and Severstal station amounted to more than 16 kilometers. Additionally, Severstal had to reconstruct the Balakovo station in order to increase its throughput. Two techniques and binding railway tracks were laid there; 11 new turnouts were replaced and laid; New equipment, weekends and shunting traffic lights, automation and alarm cables were installed.
