Kazakhstan’s steelmaker Qarmet plans to commission a new long steel rolling complex in Temirtau by the end of 2026. The Kazakh presidential press service reported the plan after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the site on November 2.
The complex will have annual capacity of more than 540,000 tonnes. Built with Chinese technology partner CERI, it will produce high-strength A600 and A1000 rebar, angles and channels. Its reheating furnace will be able to process up to 100 tonnes of steel per hour. Installation of the main equipment and construction of supporting infrastructure are underway.
The project is expected to expand Qarmet’s long steel output, reduce Kazakhstan’s reliance on imports and supply steel for construction projects, including nuclear power plants.
The complex is part of Qarmet’s $3.5 billion investment programme, which also includes new coke oven batteries, a galvanizing and polymer-coating line, and a casting and rolling complex.
