Mexican steelmaker Deacero has cast the first billet at its new minimill in Ramos Arizpe. Italian equipment supplier Danieli, which provided the plant, announced the commissioning milestone on November 2.
The caster is currently being supplied with steel from the existing electric arc furnace at Steelmaking Plant No. 1. Commissioning of the new furnace at Plant No. 2 is ongoing. Production of beam blanks is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
The project is Deacero’s fifth minimill built with Danieli and is designed for annual capacity of 1.5 million metric tons. The facility will produce large sections of up to 27 inches. Its equipment includes a 150-metric-ton electric arc furnace with Danieli’s Zero-Man-Around technology and automatic raw material feeding.
