Fatal consequences for the EU steel industry

For the EU steel industry, it is difficult to cope with foreign competition in the context of more or less open subsidies for this production in other countries, which, moreover, do not pay attention to climate considerations.

If nothing changes in the EU climate policy, and other countries continue to produce rolled metal without taking into account climatic issues, then difficult times will come for the steel industry of the entire EU. The EU steel market will collapse because it will be flooded with steel - for example from Turkey, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia or China ...

For example, electricity is subtly subsidized in Turkey. In these realities, it is difficult for EU metallurgists to be competitive. And we must not forget that one job at a steel plant means as many as seven in related industries - says Przemyslaw Stukovsky, CEO of the Polish company Cognor, which sells steel products.

"If there is no sobering up and equal opportunities and the same realities for steel producers in the EU and beyond, I am definitely a pessimist about the future work of the steel industry in Poland and throughout the EU," Stukovsky emphasizes.
