Iran reduced in 2012 the export of metallurgical raw materials and increased its own steel production. The government plans to completely abandon the import of steel products, on Friday, the Deputy Minister of Industry Irana Raza Fatami-Amin said on Friday.
Today, Iran imports about 7 million tons of steel a year, IRIB News reports. From January to September 2012, mining enterprises of the country exported 775 thousand 361 tons of iron ore, which is 27% than in the same period last year.
23 million tons of cast iron and steel were sold in the domestic market of Iran last year, according to the head of the local Association of Metallogors Mohammed Azad.
