Italian steel production declines in 2020

Italy produced about 20.3 million tonnes of raw steel in 2020, down 12.2% from 2019, according to the Italian steel industry association Federacciai.

During this period, steel sheet production declined 16.2% year-on-year to about 9.4 million tonnes, and long products production dropped 9.5% to 11.1 million tonnes.

Italy produced approximately 1.6 million tonnes of crude steel in December 2020, up 15% over the same period a year ago. Steel sheet production was about 830,000 tonnes and long products about 860,000 tonnes, up 36.5% and 12.3% year-on-year, respectively.
