The lower house of Italy on Wednesday approved a bill providing for two years of deferred on a court decision on a stop of production at the ILVA metallurgical plant to solve environmental problems.
The Chamber of Deputies approved the continuation of environmental pollution in the city of Taranto 421 votes for "and 21 votes against". The draft law was transferred to the Senate for the final statement.
The bill provides for the appointment of an independent supervisory authority, which will control the introduction of more environmentally friendly technologies at the plant and the provision of state guarantees for a loan for the modernization of production capacities ILVA.
Italian Prime Minister Mario Monty signed the corresponding decree at the end of November, but the approval of the parliament is necessary for its implementation, since the decision of the Taranto Court has entered into legal force.
