According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in the first three months of this year, Turkey imported a total of about 2.11 million tons of flat steel products, up 5.5% over the same period last year.
Among them, imports in March alone amounted to almost 607,000 tons, down 27% year-over-year due to weak demand in December 2021, when the shipment order month was March this year.
Russia and Ukraine are traditionally the main sources of hot-rolled coil (HRC) imports to Turkey. However, after the outbreak of hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, Turkey imported most of the hot-rolled steel from China.
